Trabajo Nocturno y otros cuentos (Graveyard Shift and Other Tales)
So I haven’t posted a new project in a while… it’s been a busy couple of months with my new job and this time for year always seems to spark a million new ideas. This fall, however, has been especially important. One of my favourite people in the whole world wrote a book and I was honoured when she asked me to design the cover. It ended up being not just the cover, but the inside too, and then the website and posters, and flyers. It was a lot of work, but it was truly a labour of love.
It all started with the name, Trabajo Nocturno y otros cuentos. So I did a word mark for the title:
Followed by the illustration for the front cover. The direction I got was “It needs to have a feeling of darkness, but be colourful…” Okaaaaay…. So I worked for a while and eventually came up with this:
Once the book cover was set, and we had painstakingly combed through the inside, we moved onto the web site, fully responsive, a good coding exercise for me:
Now we’re getting ready to head to Mexico city in 2 weeks for the first (of many) presentation in the Zocalo. I will be so happy to finally be able to hold the book in my hands when we arrive.
